A brand new and very upscale traditional ryokan with an amazing indoor & outdoor bath. It is a little more expensive than most, at 1000円 for a bath, but the rustic surroundings and small museum make the trip worth while.

Shima Onsen

Nakanojo

Shima Onsen is off route 353, about 20~30 min by car fron Nakanojo Station (JR Agatsuma Line). For people without a car there are busses leaving from Nakanojo Station.

There are a number of Ryokan/Hotels, the largest being Shima Grand. There are also a couple of Day Spas. 四万清流の湯 (Shima Seiryuu no Yu) is a nice day spa frequented by alot of Nakanojo locals, and has a great view of Shima River from their outdoor baths. It is open 10am - 9pm (8 pm in the winter) and costs 500yen/2 hours for Adults (300yen for children)

Shirasawa Bokyo-no-yu

A large onsen right off the R120 with several different baths, including a jacuzzi and sauna and a large outdoor bath with amazing views of Mount Akagi.
