General Information

Gunma designates a warning level from 1 (lowest) to 4 (highest) based on the number of confirmed active cases, the current medical capacity of the Prefecture to treat severely ill patients, and the current conditions in neighboring prefectures.

Japan focuses on encouraging avoidance of the “three Cs” (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings), promoting hand-washing and the usage of masks in public, and targeting “clusters” of outbreaks, rather than attempting to identify all individual cases. As a result, please be aware that it may be more difficult to get a PCR test due to Japan’s strictly-regimented testing policies than it is in your home country.

You may also be asked by your workplace or CO to keep a personal daily written record of your activity and body temperature, to track the people and places you come into contact with, and to make apparent any changes in your health. Thermometers can be easily found at most convenience stores, electronics stores, and pharmacies, or your school may have some available for use.

COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA)

The COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA) is an app developed by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare. The app uses Bluetooth to detect whether the user may have come into contact with an infected person and notifies you if you have. Contact information is encrypted and stored locally, and the app can be used anonymously without inputting any personal or identifying information.

If You Experience Symptoms

If you experience symptoms associated with COVID-19 such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, or changes in your sense of taste or smell, do NOT go into work and do NOT go directly to a hospital or clinic. Let your school and/or contracting organization know, and follow their instructions.
