Volunteering in GunmaSubmitted by Annie Falch on Wed, 2008/03/12 - 01:43.
Does anyone know about volunteer work in Gunma? Specificially NON-teaching volunteering? Like building houses, working at a homeless center or with homeless people, etc.? I guess if you know of some great teaching stuff too that's okay I am just super interested in volunteering along with a few others of the Kiryu crew. Any help would be AWESOME! Thanks :) |

shake that class
you want to volunteer for the nakasendo english conference in saitama? it's not exactly gunma and it's not exactly teaching, but it's english related (not jet related except for the fact that AJET is co-sponsoring it). just one day. c'mon kiryu, show me what you're workin with.
Teaching Related Volunteer Work
I don't know of any non-teaching related volunteer work, but volunteering for the special needs visits one Saturday a month is worthwhile. Many of the special needs kids really crave positive attention. Depending on the school, some of them have been taken away from their families due to mis-treatment and so live in a special facility near the school. These students really want love and need positive attention. Teaching them can be really rewarding.

special needs school
Hey Bahia,
are you speaking about a specific school? My city had no such facility (that I'm aware of) but I'd be really interested in volunteering for something like this. Do you have any more info?
Thanks, Amy
10K run/cycle
Hi Annie! My fiancee and I are organizing a 10K charity run/cycle on April 27 to raise money for humanitarian relief in Rwanda and Darfur, if you're interested -- I'll be posting more details on gunmajet.net and Facebook and everywhere else soon enough, but I thought I'd give you an early head's-up so you (and anyone else in Kiryu, or anyone else anywhere, period!) can mark your calendars and save the date.
