Fukiware Falls - 吹割の滝 (fukiware no taki)Submitted by cyangoose on Tue, 2005/09/20 - 12:22.
Location Cost: Free Location Description: Fukiware Falls is a waterfall in Numata-shi Tone-machi. The name means something akin to 'falls that split and blow.' The name comes from how the ground appears to be split and the sheets of spray that come from the falls. There is lovely hiking right around and above the falls and it's also possible to walk right up to the edge of the falls. Be careful and stay behind the painted lines though as people have been washed over the edge by sudden rushes of water.
The falls are approximately 7m high and 30m long. On December 16, 1936, the previous Monbusho named the falls as a natural monument of Japan.
