Help! Quick question regarding US taxes!

Just when I thought I had everything figured out... I think I'm screwed. I had filled everything out myself and thought I was golden, but e-mailed my parents to ask a few questions last week. They e-mailed back saying they had some guy do it, and it's filed already (the 1040 and WI state income forms that is)!!!

What does this mean for me? I know you can't file twice, so am I shit out of luck for my income in Japan? Am I going to jail? Can I still file the 4648 extension form just as I would/should (followed by the 1040 and 2555ez in July (330 days post being hurrr)? Can I somehow negate his having already filed? Ahhh - what do I do, what do I do? Any insight would be greatly appreciated - otherwise I'll go to the IRS for help, but I think we know how that's gonna go.

Amended Tax Return

I think you can file the extension form now, and then file an amended tax return later (http://taxes.about.com/od/taxtrouble/a/form1040X.htm), and include form 2555ez. But I am no tax expert!

Google it for more information about what to do in your specific situation. I would search for "filing for overseas income", "overseas income exclusion", "filing an amended tax return", etc. You can also look on IRS.gov and they have a pretty good FAQ covering all sorts of situations.

PS. E-file extension

You should also be able to e-file your extension:
