xbox live question (followup to the GTA thread)Submitted by doug on Wed, 2008/04/30 - 15:54.
do any of you guys go on xbox live here? if so, could you answer a few questions for me: (i'm getting an american 360 in the mail just to play GTA4 and COD4, and i'm going home within the year so i had no reason to get a japanese 360) 1. do you play with people in north america, and if so, what is the lag like? i ran an online speed test from my apartment to Los Angeles and got a ping of about 130. but to New York i think the ping was closer to 200. is this acceptable? anyone have any experiences to share with playing against people in north america? 2. does the region of your disc and xbox limit who you can play against on xbox live? will having an american xbox and an american copy of GTA4 restrict who i can play with? 3. anyone play GTA4 online here in japan yet? any comments? |

1. I play with people in North America frequently, they are all on the west coast. I don't have much trouble with lag at all, so long as I'm not downloading something or otherwise using my connection. There have been occasional blips and blops, but nothing outside of the normal scope of online play.
2. No, I have a Japanese Xbox and Japanese Halo. No issues playing with any of my friends. In fact, the first time I played online I had to have them explain what people were saying! (only the cutscenes are subtitled in the Japanese version)
3. I'm waiting for Phil's copy to arrive so he can tell us all if it's worth it.
Yeah, you'll have no
Yeah, you'll have no problems/restrictions connecting to anyone. Assuming you have anything decent in regards to internet access, lag won't even be an issue. I also have JP Xbox and play halo3 practically every night and get probably about a 100:1 ratio of American/English to Japanese players and very little lag (except for the random crapiness of halo servers bailing out, and then everyone lags).
yeah, i play mostly with my
yeah,
i play mostly with my friends from the states. there might be some set up issues with billing or something if u have a US 360... i am not sure but as long as you have a creit card noone will complain.
my copy of GTA will be here this sat. i am sure that it will work fine with multi-play. when i play COD 4 its nothing but little prepubescent brats from bumblefuk, middle America that use the word n*gger like its a cool new insult. sorry, just venting. but yeah you will have no problems whatsoever playing with n.americans.
To be honest though, GTA mutli-player is going to do what COD4 did to HALO 3 multi-player. Eat up more than half the population. I think GTA is going to be the halo 2 for 360. the on-line play is DOPE from what i have heard.
thanks for all the info
thanks for all the info guys!

my gamer tag is manny phesto
hit me up.
this game is like the most well done game i have ever played.
they crossed all the "t"s and dotted all the "i"s
the multi-player is fun but like all on-line games it just
a few morons to ruin all the fun. right know everyone is
getting use to the controls and how to play. once everyone is
on the same page it will be better.
right now the best multi-player settings are GAT Race
Free Mode and Turf wars. For the game types that require
more cohesive game play are better with friends.
the story mode is fun. since liberty city is based on ny
city i get an extra kick out of it.
May as well post this here,
May as well post this here, seeing as though it might come up in a future search.
Lag for Live games can vary considerably. For instance, I had to sell Crackdown because I just couldn't play against my friends in Europe, and Gears of War was also a bit of a chore. Some stuff, like Halo 3 in competitive modes, worked fine - but in co-operative modes, were unplayable with people outside Japan/Korea.
.
This applies doubly for Virtua Fighter 5 and Dead or Alive 4 - fighting games suffery VERY badly from lag if playing intercontinentally.
