Beach Seeker

Please help...

This landlocked business is a little much sometimes. I am hoping to get away for an overnight trip to the coast in a couple of weeks. The plan is to go by train, enjoy the day, sleep there, relax in the morning and head home on Sunday. Ah.

The trouble is I don’t know where to start in terms of places to go and places to stay. Any suggestions would be great. My mind is currently boggled with all sorts of returners stuff and any directional pointing would be so wonderful.

Thank you!

Zushi

Assuming you don't want to go terribly far, then one of the best beaches in Kanto is definitly in Zushi (Kanagawa). Zushi is on the Shōnan-Shinjuku-Yokosuka line a few stops past Kamakura. It's a total beach town and the beach is only about a 15 minute walk from the station. The main beach is a long stretch of sand and has plenty of amenities close by. Plus it get's hot as hell in summer time (so good for tanning).
.
If you want to head a little farther, then there are even better beaches on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka. Shimoda is pretty famous throughout the country because it has really nice sand beaches coupled with mountains and high ridges, so it's really scenic. Again, another beach town so you'll find a lot of ice cream and other goodies to cool down to as well. If I remember correctly, you take the can take the Izukyu line straight from Atami.
‍.
You can get to both of these places in a day pretty easily. Zushi takes about 4 hours by locals, Shimoda would be about 6 hours.

Hi Odelia, I second

Hi Odelia,
I second hyakuman's recommendation of the white sandy beaches in Shimoda. A few of us headed there at the weekend and it is just beautiful (even with the rain!). The people were fantastic, the food was good and it's really easy to get around. There is a special ticket which you can buy for about 13,000 which lasts for 4 days and covers the shinkansen to and from Tokyo station and all local trains and buses in Izu. I'm pretty sure that we got our moneys worth. There are a couple of places that I can recommend if you decide to visit. It was by far one of my best trips in Japan! Amy

Amy!

This sounds fantastic! Not sure how far we will make it, but this is great information. Where did you end up staying? Any recommendations?
