MarimoSubmitted by ilovecritters on Mon, 2008/06/30 - 13:03.
So my JTE went to Hokkaido to run a marathon last weekend. As a gift he got me 2 little Marimo, a green ball of algea. When he first told me he was going to bring me one, I wasn't too keen on the idea. But now that I got them they have grown on me ^_^ So I was wondering if anyone knows if we can export them from Japan to California. I can't seem to find any info on that. |

Re: Marimo
I don't see why not since they sealed, but California has super strict rules about importing any type of plant. I would try searching for information on California border entry.

I've looked up info about importing plants into California but most have to do with agriculture.
The marimo is in a sealed jar but you have to change the water 1/2 times a week.
Plus they can really large.
Self-sustaining?
My friend has a marimo that is very small and sealed in a ball. It is self-sustaining. It may depend on what type or size you have. I think if it's not sealed and water must be changed then California will probably not let it in.
