Event Information:

The Tanabata Festival started in 1951. It is quite famous and many visitors come from all over Gunma Prefecture, as well as from other parts of Japan to partake of the festivities. Twenty shopping areas representing about 1000 stores join the Festival and streets assume a tunnel like appearance due to thousands of hanging decorations. Also, TV personalities and other events attract large crowds. The Festival lasts four days and is filled with fun events and contests. This year, on the 13th, those wanting to attend in a yukata, can register to receive a lesson in dress. Pre-register and bring your own yukata and ties.

Maebashi Tanabata - fireworks? Yukata?

Does anyone know if and when there are fireworks? Also, for anyone who's been to the festival, do many people wear yukata? I was considering going and wearing mine. Thanks in advance!

Some wear yukata, though most do not. But wearing a yukata is perfectly normal.
