Medical insurance question

I'm going back to the US to visit for a few weeks during Summer break. Does our medical insurance from JET cover doctors within the US as well if I wanted to visit my old doctor from back home? Or do I have to see a doctor in Japan?

Medical Insurance Response

Hello ElvenShadow,

Your medical insurance will only cover you in case of illnesses(emergencies)/accidents that occur while overseas. If you are going to get a check-up only that is an out-of-pocket cost. If you want to be looked at for an illness/accident that occurred in Japan you are not covered. You could get coverage if a Japanese doctor determines that the necessary treatment is not available in Japan and you must go abroad/home for treatment. It is probably best to see a doctor here. However I understand. I always make appointments when I go home, too. Let me know if you have any further questions.
