2008/08/23 - 00:00 2008/08/23 - 23:59 Event Information: The Takasaki Baykui Kannon Candle Festival, called “Mandoe万灯会(まんどうえ)” will have over 10000 candles and lanterns will line the path all the way up to the foot of the Hibiki Bridge. Visitors come and pray for such things as their ancestors, safety of their homes and families and success in business. The festival will be held on the 23rd of August at Kannon Yama Jigenji Shrine. You can get there in about 20 minutes on a bus called “Gururin” that departs from the West Exit of Takasaki Station. |

I went last year, and it was awesome. Really quite amazing, and very pretty. Be prepared for it to be hot though. You'd be amazed at what heat 10,000 tiny little flames do to the temperature of area.
