Mid-Year Seminar Request

Seeing as how this year's Mid-Year Seminar is scheduled for November 27th, then it is about time that I start drumming up support.

This year we are attempting to continue the tradition of allowing everyone a choice in their Workshop III topic. As it stands the available options are:
1. Special Needs
2. TESOL (Teaching Theory)
3. English for Transitioning to JHS (Elementary Year 5 and 6)
4. Panel Discussion (in Japanese)
5. The Japanese Workplace (Direct/Indirect Communication)

This year, what we would really like to have happen is for a motivated JTE to be the main speaker for option 5 and also to have two JTEs participate as panelists for option 4. Believe it or not the easiest way for us to find out about JTE interest is by asking the ALTs.

So, if you think your JTE would be interested in being a presenter or panelist, please ask them about it. If they are interested or just want more information then ask them to get in touch with me.

Of course, if any ALTs have in interest in presenting, feel free to get in touch with me. We're hoping to get the official letters and forms mailed in the next week or so and with any luck everyone should receive one within the next month.

This is the first in what I imagine will be long string of requests for help and presenters. Just imagine my irresistible baby-blues (well, murky grays more like) earnestly asking for help and you can't resist. Because, like I mentioned, they're irresistible.

HS mid-year

Will the senior high school ALTs be in separate sessions like last year?

Workshops I and II will have separate topics for high school ALTs and for non-HS ALTs. But everyone will choose from the same Workshop III topics. However, some of the workshop III topics will be more usefull to non-HS ALTs, such as English for "Transitioning to JHS" and probably "Special Needs."
