Koh Phi Phi
We went to Phi Phi Island during Christmas for a few days. It was a cool place: no motor vehicles, laid back atmosphere and extremely beautiful nature. We cruised around with rental boats (driver included), snorkeled and laid on the beaches. If you want to just chill you'll find the peace, but the night life is in there as well. This combination worked for me. Enjoy your trip!
thanks Lauri! A few more
thanks Lauri! A few more questions:
1. how'd you get there?? (did you fly to bangkok first?)
2. where'd you stay??
Really appreciate you replying!
Julie
Getting there
We flew to Phuket first and caught a ferry from there. You can catch a ferry from Krabi also. We stayed in Phitharom PP Resort. It's a hotel, not a hostel, so it was pretty expensive. It was almost the last option so we had to take it, but I think you'll find cheaper and satisfying acommodation from the island. I recommend you to book your accommodation from island's center (Ton Sai Bay / Loh Dalam Bay area) rather than some of hotels that are located further. They are a bit isolated and only way to get there is boat or walking through the jungle. Well, I guess this depends on what you prefer.
Be Careful!
Hey Julie,
I am sure Thailand is beautiful and that you will have a great time, but please be wary while you are there. There is a high rate of foreign women being targeted for rape and murder, even in some of the more populated areas (perhaps especially...).
I would follow these tips, just to be on the safe side:
1) Never drink something given to you by someone else that you haven't watched them pour, and never leave your drink unattended.
2) Don't wander far from well-lit areas, even only a few feet away.
3) Make sure you're with a friend and keeping tabs on where each other are when you go out at night.
You'll probably be a lot safer if you're travelling with a guy or a large group, and I am sure nothing bad will happen. I am not trying to scare you, just be smart! Thailand is nowhere near as safe as Japan and I've read some stories that I'd rather not repeat.

Traveling to Thailand-Please give me your suggestions
So my wife and I are going to Thailand for our Honeymoon in July (yes, I know July is sort of the "off season", but that's when we have time off). I've got my "Lonley Planet- Thailand Islands and Beaches" book that I've spent a good part of the morning reading. And later on I'm going to start checking into Thailand tourist websites. I'm definatly doing my own planning and research.
But as I'm planning and deciding how to do this trip... Who has been to Thailand? Did you go somewhere cool that you might recommend? There's only so much you can get from books and websites, I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has been there and done that. Ya' know?
So If you've been somewhere cool in Thailand, tell me about it. And think "Honeymoon". I'm down to throw down a few bucks this time to stay somewhere nice.
Over and out.
Been there done that
Hey Brigg,
I went to Thailand last December and was a total research and planning whore, so I can give you heaps of information and just talk through what we did to help you feel out if you'd be interested in any of it. I was going for more of an adventure trip than a staring into my loved one's eyes on a gorgeous beach trip, but I got knowledge of the place nonetheless:) I do know however that the different seasons can bring about totally different weather in different locations (ie monsoons), so unfortunately I don't which areas are best to go to now. I have a Thailand Lonely Planet book you're more than welcome to borrow if you'd like.
We stayed in some very budget hostels and also some super nice places (particularly in Koh Samui and outside of Krabi town). Here's a link to my blog where I pretty much talk about everything we did - click on January, scroll down to about the middle of the page, then work your way back up to go chronologically: http://sarahmoersfelder.blogspot.com/ . My e-mail address is smoersfelder@gmail.com if you'd like to get in touch - the best way to do it is to just talk through it all.
Congratulations to you and your wife on your marriage though and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in Thailand!
Laters.
Sweet!
Sweet! I'm definatly going to check out your blog and maybe float you an email but it might not be for a few days. But thank you!
