2007/2008 Inaugural Beer Garden Party! (FINAL DATE)

Event Information:

Hey all, I went down to the beer garden today to ask about our party, and they informed me that this year, their last open night is the Friday the 31st of August. This is the day before the previous date. As a result we're going on this friday.

They also want me to go down on Saturday with an estimate of attendees. Please comment on this event if you want to go, stating who you are and anyone else you might be bringing.

As with every year, GAJET begins our calendar of events with the Beer Garden Party!

The Takashimaya Beer Garden is in Takasaki. It's open from 5pm until 9pm, and during those four hours you get all you can drink and all you can eat for 2,800yen for men, and 2,400yen for women. It's a really good deal, GAJET often hosts events there and usually it's a great night. Just to note, for best value-for-money, try to be on time - there are no discounts if you arrive late.

The event is open to all everyone in Gunma, new and recontracted.

Please note - new JETs in your area might not yet have internet access. If you know any new JETs, please help us spread the word by informing them about this event.

Event Location:

Takashimaya beer garden is on the roof of Takashimaya department store, Takasaki. It's a big building, just on the right as you exit the west side of Takasaki station (if you need any help, contact your region rep).

As some may know, I'm not the drinker :) However, I do want to socialize badly. Is the food worth the 24$? Has anyone invited Hisami Masumura?

The food is pretty decent. They usually have french fries, fried chicken, fresh fruits, egg rolls, and that kind of thing. It's a bit snacky, but the food is pretty tasty, and you can continue to eat for the whole time. I think they also have plenty of non-alcoholic drinks.

The $24 is probably worth it for food AND socializing. A lot of people tend to turn up at the beer gardens, so you may be able to meet a lot of 2nd and 3rd year JETs, as well as non-JET foreigners.

I so want to go but I got one problem, the last bus back to my town (i'm in Kanna-machi)is at 6:50pm. It takes about 2 hrs by bus and then train to get to Takasaki so if there's any advice please help me ^_~

cheap accomodation for Beer Garden

My advice is to go to the Toyoko Inn near the station after midnite. There's a special where its around 4000 yen if you check-in after 12. It's even cheaper if you go with a friend as it's the same price for two twin beds. It's a very nice, clean and basic hotel.

OR.... you could make friends with someone in the area who will let you crash at their place.

The plan is to give it till tomorrow morning. It isn't raining now, but all the forecasts said it would rain this evening - so I'm going to see what the weather is like tomorrow, and then we'll have to decide how we're going to play it.

The weather yesterday and the day before predicted quite heavy rain in the early evening - but other than some very light spitting, it stopped quickly and didn't start raining proper until late that night. I'm going to give it till 11ish, then call Takasashimaya and ask what their opinion on the matter is.

I called Takashimaya and they do intend to open, so we're on. If there's a sudden typhoon, naturally they'll change their minds, but Yahoo Weather says that whilst it'll be cloudy, there'll be minimal to no rain before 9pm.
