How far is it from Minakami
How far is it from Minakami train station (as in minutes)?
--About an 8~10 minute taxi ride. Last time I went to the party, there was no "free shuttle bus" going to and from minakami station.
How often does the bus run?

Is it worth booking a room to stay over?
--not sure. Haven't stayed before. Maybe I will tonight?
What time would you recommend setting off?
--I would recommend getting there around 11pm. Peak time is like 1 or 2am.

There is usually a bus, but it might come only every hour. Check the website for details and it should say if the bus is running tongiht or not.
It's a far hike from Minakami station, so split a cab with someone if the bus is not running.
I bet all of the spots to stay over are already booked up, so your best bet is to either make friends with someone renting the cabins, or just stay up all night, or bring a tent and camp out.
There is no bus to get back to the station in the morning. You will have to walk or find a ride with someone going down the mountain.
The closest station is listed on the map on the website (there is a station closer than Minakami station if you are planning to walk).
