Prefectural Advisors

Prefectural Advisors (PAs) help JETs and COs deal with problems, provide information and practical advice, and also listen to any issues and serve as a sounding board. Each prefecture has at least one JET PA and one Japanese PA.

PAs aim to help JETs learn to help themselves and to encourage communication between JETs and Contracting Organizations. They can also provide referrals to professional English counselors if necessary.

Gunma has three JET PAs and one Japanese PA. We are here to help, so feel free to get in contact with us!

All PAs are available via e-mail and can answer your calls and messages from 8:30 to 16:30, Monday through Friday when they are not out of the office for business trips.

Email: [email protected]

The ALT PA can provide the following:

  • Information on JET Program procedures and contract issues (especially for SHS JETs).
  • Information on living and working in Japan.
  • Help JETs (particularly SHS) and schools/COs in working through any difficulties they might have.
  • Cooperation in the event of an emergency.

The PAs cannot do the following:

PAs observe confidentiality in most cases, though PAs share information among themselves to provide better support to JETs. PAs must receive permission from the JET before they can discuss their case with a non-PA third party, with the exception of reporting their PA activities to their superiors for work reasons (though personal details will be omitted as much as possible). The PAs will break confidentiality, however, if the JET is engaging in illegal activities or if they are likely to harm themselves or others.

If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to call or email the PAs.
