Movie Night: Ralph Breaks the Internet

Come out for another movie event with GAJET. This time, we will be watching Ralph Breaks the Internet on Saturday, December 22. We will be meeting at Keyaki Walk, the shopping mall in Maebashi. Specific movie times to be announced later.

Kokeshi Painting & Haruna Illuminations

Get over your Winter blues by gathering with your GAJET family this December. We will be meeting for Kokeshi painting on the afternoon of December 15. The painting event is a two hour course which will cost ¥1200 per person. For more information, please visit this site. Thanksgiving Potluck

Join GAJET on December 2 for a belated Thanksgiving potluck dinner. The event will be held at Genki21 plaza in Maebashi (map here).

We ask that everyone attending please bring one dish for the potluck (serving about five people) and 500 yen. Those who can’t bring a dish will be asked to pay 1500 yen. Children under 15 can enter for free.

GAJET Myogi Hike

Join GAJET as they hike one of Gunma’s most challenging mountains… Miyogi! Planned for November 4, this hike is  timed perfectly with the autumn leaves. Two hikes will be available, each one hosted by a Seibu rep. The beginner hike, SEKIMON, will be lead by Ciara. The advanced hike, KANDOU-SAN will be lead by Maja. Both paths are sure to offer excellent views of nature and changing leaves.

As per hiking tradition, an optional stop at the onsen is available afterwards.

Remember to bring:

  • comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking (it may get colder, so extra layers may be needed)
  • water!!
  • lunch
  • The optional onsen will be 600 yen (bring a towel and a change of clothes!)

Orihime Park and Shrine

Join GAJET on October 20, as we host a scenic trek at the Ashikaga Prefectural National Park.

Hosted by the your amazing Tobu Rep, this is an opportunity to take in some of Japan’s natural beauty. The casual 3.8 miles walk will take approximately three hours.

The plan is to meet at Ashikaga Station at noon, and then taxi/carpool to the park.

Mount Akagi Hike

Looking to check out Gunma’s beautiful nature? Want to do that while getting a solid workout while accompanied by friends? GAJET’s first hike of the year may be what you are looking for.

Join us on September 16, as we hike one of Gunma’s most iconic mountains – Mount Akagi!  We will be carpooling to Akagi Shrine & Akagi Visitor’s Center, then walking to the trails together from there!

And of course, no Japanese hike is complete without a trip to the onsen afterwards (510 yen).

Gunma Games and Welcome Beer Garden

Looking for a way to meet new people in Gunma while having fun and competing? Say no more! It’s almost time for the sixth annual Gunma Games!

Never heard of the Gunma Games? The Gunma Games is usually the first large GAJET event after the new JETs arrive in Gunma. Come on out and represent your region in this Olympic-style sporting event! Events can range from trivia, paper crane folding, relay-race, and of course the ever-popular Ultimate Cabbage!

Athletes and non-athletes alike are welcome to participate. Regardless of your abilities, you’ll be sure to have a fun time.

The Gunma Games will be held on September 1st at Takasaki Ishihara Green Space. Please arrive by 11:30 as the opening ceremonies will commence at noon.

The Gunma Games wouldn’t be complete without the following Welcome Beer Garden. There’s no better way to end off a day in the sun than with drinking with your fellow competitors. Everyone is welcome to join us as the Takasaki Takashiyama Rooftop Beer Garden after the festivities.

Please sign up via the google document (click here), and remember to wear your region appropriate color to the event (PS. Speak to your regional representative if you don’t know what color you are)!
