Canyons Adventure and Mixer 2015

10 August 2015 No Comments

It’s that time of year again—one of GAJET’s biggest events—the Canyons Adventure and Mixer! Get to know your neighbors from Gunma, Ibaraki, Nagano, Saitama, and Tochigi while catching the last rays of summer during an action-(or leisure) packed weekend at Gunma’s own Canyons Alpine Lodge in Minakami.

It will be held on Saturday, September 12th – Sunday September 13th. Like last year, participants can choose from a variety of options to create their ideal weekend. This year we won’t be offering rafting as an option as the water is pretty low this time of year. BUT don’t fear for the first time we are offering a variety of Canyon courses not just the one. I can ensure you there is something for everyone.

Please check them out here: http://canyons.jp/en/tours/summer/canyoning/minakami

Another first is that we are offering a Tour on the Sunday. Maybe, you are like me and have your sports day on Saturday and can’t make it during the day. All good join us for the BBQ at night and then join in the high thrilling tour of the ‘Willow Canyon’.

Unfortunately this course is no longer available due to landslides in the area.

All canyoning spots are based on a first come, first served basis so please send in registration early to ensure your place. Spaces fill up quickly!

At this year’s Canyons Adventure and Mixer, we’re able to offer a variety of options to suit everyone’s needs. Whether you want a day full of action-packed adventure, or simply want to relax away from the city for two days, you can choose from any of the following options to customize your vacation:

Canyoning — Slide head- and feet-first down waterfalls and channels, jump off rock precipices, gorgeous scenery, experienced guides. Morning and afternoon tours are possible but subject to availability. To find out more, check out this article from a previous canyoning event.

Full Day Adventure — Interested in experiencing more than one of the Canyon courses? Then sign up for our Full Adventure Package. Join the morning canyoning tour, eat lunch provided by Canyons, and then enjoy another one of their courses in the afternoon. The Full Adventure Package is also subject to availability in both morning and afternoon tours.

Leisure in Minakami — The Minakami area is filled with activities for those who want a more leisurely day: relax next to the river and swim in the watering hole near Canyons, hike or take the ropeway up the Tanigawadake, rent a bike, visit one (or several) of the numerous onsen, or get your traditional craft on at Takumi-no-Sato. Although GAJET is not organising any events, if you don’t want to do canyons but want to spend time with other JETs, there are many things to do in Minakami while others are canyoning. Contact the Tone Reps for more info about things to do 🙂

Barbecue — In the evening, join GAJET for a barbecue of meat, veggies, and yakisoba at Alpine Lodge!

Party time!! — After the BBQ let’s dance the night away. The best part this year is that we all get a say in what music get’s played. So start putting together your favorite party play lists.
